Question about the daily intake of liquids
Mar 2nd, 2010 at 2:17pm

I've been banded since 12/4/09 and have lost a total of 30 lbs since my surgery date (and 39 total lbs since I first saw Dr Rehnke to begin the process of being a bandster).

I'm struggling with the amount of water I'm supposed to be drinking.  Doc wants me to drink 1 gallon of water a day.  I'm not anywhere near that, especially since I cannot eat during and right after my meals.  My question is:  Do Tea and Crystal Light count toward the "gallon of water requirement"?   I simply don't like water, but do much better with tea (sweetened with sweet n low) and with Crystal Light.   Do those beverages help flush out the fat like water is supposed to do?   I'm really going to try and make sure I'm drinking more water, but it sure would be helpful to know that the tea and Crystal Light I'm drinking is helping flush me too.     Any answers to my question would be very appreciated!   Susan K?  Do you know the answer to this?

Thanks!!

DISCLAIMER - I am not a medical professional

My understanding is that Crystal Light would certainly count. I know it has in the past (on WW etc).

OK here you all go. Crystal Light is good and does count as the fluid Intake. Though they list as 5 Calories on the containers. I find that the Walmart brand taste just the same, but also list as Zero Calories on the containers plus their cheaper.

Tea is also good as it is also works somewhat like those water pills the doctors keep prescribing. But watch the calories of the sugar substitutes your adding.

I also don't care much for straight water, but it's better when it's ice cold. Or add a little lemon to it.

30 pounds lose in three months is very good. Stick to the program and instead of jumping on a scale just take your measurements and watch your cloths fall off.

Santa,

I like the Wal-Mart brand best too.  Especially grape!  I just find Crystal Light is easier to purchase, since I have to grocery shop each week.  I try to stay away from Wal-Mart.  I go in there to buy one thing and end up spending all kind of $$$.  Wink LOL

Thanks again!  Smiley

Walmart has some of the Crystal Light in boxes for single serves on Sale right now.
I too keep from buying too much, don't get a cart. Thus you get tired from not leaning on the cart plus what ever you get your carrying and thus limited room.

I have a trick of the trade so to speak that helps me keep track of how much I'm drinking and also gives me some variety.  I drink a bottle of water, then I'll refill it at the water fountain, etc., and put a Crystal Lite (or Wal-Mart brand) packet in.  When that's gone I get another bottle of water.  I work in an office so I'll bring a variety of the Crystal Lite packets in so that I can change up the flavors as I go along.  I really helps me to get in the liquids!  I have noticed that I will lose better if and when I do get my water in like Dr. R wants!   Cheesy

Your Doctor can Prescribe them. Such as Lasiks. Their mainly an add on for High Blood Pressure relief. But once I take them, I'm going every 20 minutes for 2-4 hours.

Be careful with the lemon in your tea.  Fruits have carbs.

Rule of thumb re: oral intake.  It counts if the major ingredient is H2O so your teas, crystal light etc are fine!!
